Today Aoya was celebrating its spring festival, and the sound of flutes and shouts echoed through the town.

The portable shrines of each of the three shrines (Ushiozu Shrine, Minato Shrine, and Aiya Shrine) were parading around. The shrines are very close to each other, making the festival very lively! They have an adult mikoshi and a children's mikoshi.

I happened to be there and took a break with ice cream and cold tofu at "Aoya Youkoso Kan" 🍨.

In the afternoon, I watched the "Aoya Ekimae Umbrella Dance" performed by the volunteer youth group “Buyo-dan” (dance troupe).
I heard it is also called “Otoko Odori” (male dance).
It was a very cool dance with a strong and slow pace.

It is said to be originally in memory of the Lord of Shikano Castle. The lyrics also sound like that.
It is said that kendo kata was incorporated into the swing, and it seemed to represent a sword fight.

I was able to see it last year in front of "Coffee & Curry Goto" and I was able to see it again this year. ☺️
